Money Bags Workshop
This workshop is offered during Stan Chisholm’s solo exhibition, NewPop I. Working with a motif usually seen in cartoons, MoneyBags is a public art project that transfers the recognizable image of the moneybag from the comic to the real and playfully challenges society’s values, the role of currency, the idea of ownership, and human impulses towards greed and generosity. MoneyBags has multiple iterations, and is not bounded by any single project. Stan will be joined by a collaborator and Chicago artist, Lisa See Kim. Tablet/Card Weaving
A 3 hour workshop dedicated to the construction and utilization of a card loom. Students will leave with a woven belt band and the ability and supplies to create more complicated projects.
Kyra received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. After graduation she moved to Chicago where she worked as a print assistant for the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative. Kyra has printed and designed broadsides for poets such as Dan Beachy-Quick through the Powell’s North Reading Series, run collaboratively by the Art Institute of Chicago and Powell’s Chicago Bookstores. She also worked for the indie label Fresh Produce in creating the artwork for an album by the band, The Leaves.
Felting A Hat
In this course we will create wearable hats out of felt and use simple techniques that you can use at home. The process of felting involves tangling together wool fibers through agitation. No knitting necessary! This is the perfect class for the pending season change.
Jessi Cerutti explores personal memory and local history through printmaking and fiber arts. Her work has been shown in various juried exhibitions, and she has been involved in several DIY projects, including galleries in alternative spaces and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Craft Show, of which she is Co-Founder and Vice President.
Garage Screenprinting Workshop
A two-day workshop in which students will learn Zettwoch’s mostly self-taught, low-fidelity silk-screening process. He’ll go from ink drawings on paper to burnt stencils on screens to multi-colored prints on paper, fabric, or whatever the participants desire. »Read more...
Fall Harvest Paper Making
It’s the end of October, and last summer’s green bounty of lilies, hostas, and vines are wilting into brown masses. Let’s harvest these plants and turn them into beautiful sheets of handmade paper! In this workshop, participants will bring in fibers harvested from the wild or their home gardens and transform them into varieties of experimental papers. Basic papermaking techniques will be covered including processing of plant fibers and pulling sheets. »Read more...
