The Counties en Plein Air - Billyo O'Donnell

The St. Louis Artists' Guild is pleased to present the entire collection of 115 original oil paintings by Billyo O'Donnell for the Painting Missouri exhibition opening July 28 through September 2, 2017. The Painting Missouri: The Counties en Plein Air book features historical descriptions and regional stories by author Karen Glines. Painting Missouri: The Counties en Plein Air is an extraordinarily rich collection of scenes and seasons along the highways and byways of the Show-Me State. Since 2008, O'Donnell and Glines have traveled across the state to complete a project that would be timelessly beautiful and reflect their love for the state of Missouri. The Painting Missouri project creates a tangible future for generations to continuously appreciate. We invite you to share your Missouri story on PaintingMissouri.com and attend our exhibition programming by engaging, you can become a part of preserving not only Missouri but American history.

Plein Air in Forest Park with Billyo O’Donnell

A St. Louis Artists’ Guild and Painting Missouri Project Event

 Morning Paint Out and Afternoon Lecture/Discussion

 “The Importance of Finding Like-Minded Artists” by Billyo 

7:00 am – 7:45 am: For participants only, Billyo will give a free demonstration on ideas on blocking in a landscape painting before the event starts (outside the Visitor Center in Forest Park)

8:00 am – noon: Painting in Forest Park

Noon – 1:00 pm (on your own): Lunch Break

1:15 pm: Lecture at the STLAG with discussion immediately following

Grand Finale: Reception, Awards Ceremony, and Sale of Art (please have framed, wired, and ready to hang)

Registration Fee: $15 member/$25 non-member

Please join the St. Louis Artists’ Guild and Painting Missouri for a Summer Morning Plein Air competition at the historically beautiful Forest Park. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and camaraderie among artists while testing your painting or drawing talents. Jurors Michael Anderson and Joanne Stremsterfer will select the cash award winners, $200 First Place, $150 Second Place, and $100 Third Place. 

The event will begin at 8 am and the artist must work entirely on location. Artists must have their panels, canvases, or watercolor paper stamped, starting with a blank surface — absolutely nothing pre-painted, pre-drawn, or in any way begun. Artists only have until noon to complete their artwork. Any artistic medium except photography, computer-generated images, or sculpture is allowed.  Submitted artwork can be sold, with the artist receiving 65% and the St. Louis Artists’ Guild receiving a 35% commission. Finding Artistic Direction in “Paint and Words” with Billyo O’Donnell and Karen Glines

A creative workshop on the relationship between art and the story with Billyo O’Donnell and Karen Glines Artist and Author of Painting Missouri: The Counties en Plein Air. This is a unique workshop to expand the creative individual’s concept of direction. Whether you’re an artist or a writer, you will learn from each discipline in a fun and educational environment. There will be examples and demonstrations showing how the fundamentals in a painting or narrative can change to give it a sense of purpose and personalized meaning.
