HUMENAGERIE: Containers of an Uncertain Ancestry
HUMENAGERIE is a juried exhibition of lidded ceramic containers (teapots, cookie jars, lidded cups, etc) combining human and animal forms. This exhibition is open to all students in high school or their freshman year of college.
Humenagerie combines two time-honored traditions in art history: the concept of human/animal hybrids (taking the form of mythological creatures such as minotaurs, sphinxes, centaurs, gods and goddesses) and the representational container (from canopic jars to cookie jars). The curators of Humenagerie seek fresh, bright and original interpretations of these classic themes.
