New! Trivia Night at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild

The first annual Trivia Night at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild and silent auction benefiting The St. Louis Artists’ Guild will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008. The event will be held at the Guild’s beautifully restored mansion, Two Oak Knoll Park, Clayton, MO. 63105.
Doors open at 6:00 pm when guests are invited to view two floors of galleries that celebrate the works of local and regional artists. Be sure to stop by the Gift Shop filled with a variety of jewelry, gift items and prints for purchase. Trivia questions begin at 7:00 pm, hosted by the colorful Johnny Rabbit.
Tickets are $20.00 per person / $160.00 for a table of 8. There will also be a bountiful silent auction and other games. Light snacks and beverages will be provided, but participants may bring in their own food and drinks.

Proceeds of the evening go towards educational programs and exhibits at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild that enhance the St. Louis community along with assistance in maintenance for the historic home of the Guild.

St. Louis Art D Tour*
October 3, 2008 6 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Free to the public. The St. Louis Art D Tour will take place June 6th, August 1st, and October 3rd, all first Fridays of the given month.
Shuttles with live music and “seat” prizes will shuttle people to galleries and museums in 5 main art districts of St. Louis: Forest Park, University City, Grand Center, Downtown, Clayton , and Maplewood.
Galleries and museums creating the June Art D Tour include The Saint Louis Art Museum, The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Craft Alliance Gallery, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, Sheldon Art Galleries, Bruno David Gallery, PSTL Window Gallery @ Pace Framing, Schmidt Contemporary Art Gallery, Drive Agency and Gallery, Ellen Curlee Gallery, Philip Slein Gallery, ArtDimensions’ 3rd Floor Gallery, the Hoffman La Chance Gallery, and the St. Louis Artists’ Guild’s New Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit.

Exhibit Series: Stages
Emerging Artists Exhibit*
Opening: September 14, 2008, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Admission: Free and open to the public.
This all media exhibition will feature a new collaboration with art departments of colleges, universities and community colleges in the St. Louis area to encourage and highlight the creativity of emerging B.F.A. and M.F.A. students. The Department Heads of Washington University, Fontbonne University, University of Missouri – St. Louis, and Webster University, and the four St. Louis Community Colleges, will participate. Student artist statements will be collected and displayed, discussing each student’s artistic vision at this stage in his or her career.

Express Yourself – Guild Member Exhibit*

All media, walk-in exhibit (memberships must be up to date at time of entry.)
This all-media, walk-in exhibition will be open to member artists living in the St. Louis area and surrounding region. The juror will select works of art from a current pool of Artists’ Guild members who will be invited to submit their work for this competitive exhibition. The majority of these artists are in the mid-point of their careers. Artists’ Statements will discuss creative vision, artistic influences, and development of technique.

Brother Mel Meyer 80th Birthday Retrospective* – 80 in ’08

A celebration of the life and works of Brother Mel Meyer.
This 80th Birthday Retrospective exhibition will explore the multi-media work of well-known St. Louis artist, Marianist Brother Mel Meyer. Brother Mel has exhibited his work nationally and is included in many private and public collections. The Guild is honored to present the work of this distinguished artist to local audiences who may be unfamiliar with his art.

Exhibit Series: Visual Expressions
Horizons*
Opening: November 23, 2008, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Admission: Free and open to the public.
A juried exhibit of works that have a definitive horizon line. Works must be only two dimensional. All media is accepted as long as it can be hung on the wall. Works will be hung in the first floor galleries and the horizon line will be consistent throughout. This will have great visual appeal and offer the viewer a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Admission: Free and open to the public.
National juried competition of photography. Essential element in piece must focus on man-made objects such as architecture/structures, bridges, signs, roads, vehicles, gardens, etc.
This national, juried photography exhibition of man-made objects only (examples: architecture, signs, vehicles, gardens) will explore the 2-D depiction of 3-D objects. This competitive exhibition will examine a variety of traditional and contemporary photographic techniques that will expose audiences to the breadth and depth of photography.
Digital entries only. All pics must depict something man-made.
