Multi-media artist Sun Smith-Foret locates herself and her artwork in a rationally, emotionally, spiritually, and humanely arrived at multicultural future with roots in narrative tradition.
She will lead a hands-on workshop that explores the materials and ideas behind her current studio practice which is inspired by global contemporary basketry and non-Western tribal art forms, both functional and ritualistic objects. Participants will construct personal artifacts, with an emphasis on textile construction methods of wrapping, tying, knotting, crocheting, stitching and bundling.
General materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring objects from home, such as beads and found/treasured objects that can be incorporated into amuletic sculpture. Open to all skill levels.
