Introduction to Figure Painting

with Bryan Robertson

8 weeks

Thursdays June 14 to August 9 (no class July 5)

6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

The figure is one of the most common themes found within historical and contemporary painting. The figure has the ability to transmit psychological messages and imprint upon the viewer a multitude of emotions. In this class we will work directly from the model, while we address issues of form, proportions, and disposition. Specific topics to be covered include:  gesture, balance, proportion, movement, mass, and anatomy. Additionally, this class will serve as an introduction to the versatility of water mixable oil paints as both a method of staining the paint surface and building thicker, juicier marks
