Beyond Green: Watercolor Painting Light and Shadows in Nature

November 15 & 22, 2025

2 weeks, Saturdays, 3:00 - 6:00 PM

Instructor: Elzara Yusufova

Green in nature is never just “green.” In this two-week watercolor workshop, we will explore the beauty and variety of greens in the landscape. You’ll learn how to mix lively and natural greens from blues, yellows, and reds, and how to create atmosphere with warm and cool tones. We’ll focus on how to mix vibrant and natural greens using blues, yellows, and even reds, how to suggest light and shadow in foliage without painting every leaf, how to use warm and cool greens to create depth and distance in the landscape, The role of complementary colors (reds, violets, browns) in balancing and enriching greens, as well as essential watercolor techniques for foliage: wet-on-wet textures, dry brush for details, and negative painting. In the first week, students will explore greens, mixing colors, foliage textures, shadow studies. In week two, students will complete a landscape with trees, light, and depth.

Skill Level: This workshop is designed for students who have some experience painting with watercolors.
