Botanical Garden Plein Air:

Watercolor Sketching & Landscape Studies for Intermediate to Advanced Artists

October 8 & 9, 2026

Thursday and Friday, 9AM - 1PM

This two-day plein air workshop focuses on watercolor sketching and painting from direct observation in the Botanical Garden. Students will learn to simplify complex scenes into clear shapes and value masses, create strong compositions, capture color relationships, and use atmospheric perspective to create depth. We will paint botanical landscapes while incorporating architectural elements where appropriate.

The first day will focus on a series of quick watercolor sketches to strengthen observation and decision-making. On the second day, students will complete a longer, more refined painting, applying the techniques explored throughout the workshop.

Skill Level: intermediate and advanced students

Botanical Garden ($16.00 General Admission each day or $6.00 for St. Louis City and County Residents)

If you must cancel, please email (info@stlouisartistsguild.org) or call STLAG. A refund will be given only if cancellation occurs seven days prior to the first day of class. No exceptions. Refunds will be processed minus a $25 withdrawal fee per course registration.
