Digital Character Design for Teens
October 11 - November 15, 2025 (Skip November 1)
5 weeks, Saturdays, 10AM-12PM
Instructor: Celina Monzon
Do you enjoy creating stories? Making characters to inhabit your imaginary worlds? Learn the way your favorite characters from games and shows are made!
This is a beginners/intermediate character design course with an emphasis on creating memorable characters for videogames, animation or film. We will learn about character archetypes, genres in media, shape design, and design iteration; as we develop a concept from life observations, reference, and our imaginations. The goal by the end of the course will be to create your own character and animal companion!
Exploration, getting out of your comfort zone, and visually communicating through drawing will be major components to our class, with a lot of guided learning and group collaboration to pursue your own ideas.
Level: This is a beginner to intermediate class, no previous knowledge of digital tools required. Drawing skills are helpful, especially experience in figure drawing, but not required.
Supplies are included in the cost of the class. We will be using Apple iPads, Apple Pencils, and the app Procreate. If your teen has their own they would like to bring, that’s great! The devices that belong to STLAG will remain here between classes and cannot be taken home.
