Image Transfers and Mixed Media- Exploring Identity and Self
July 28, 29, 30, 2026
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
10 AM - 12:30 PM
Instructor: Kristi Ponder
Age Limits: 16+
This class will focus on a variety of different ways to transfer images onto your personal artwork. We will experiment with using matte medium, baby oil, packaging tape and hand sanitizer as tools to transfer images onto our desired surfaces.
The goal of this workshop is to create a finished artwork that relays the artist’s identity to viewers through image transfers and mixed media. First, we will explore what identity means and includes: our interests, beliefs, morals, hobbies, personality traits, gender, ethnicity, etc. Our process will go through three steps: pre-transfer media, transfer, post-transfer media. We will experiment with transfer techniques, observe and discuss artworks that use transfers, plan, then execute a finished personal artwork based on what part of the artist’s identity they would like to communicate.
This workshop does not teach drawing and painting techniques, so artists should have a basic understanding of those mediums if they choose to explore how they work with the image transfer processes we will learn. We will be creating backgrounds for our transfers using a variety of media, but artists are also welcome to bring in any of the following: records, mirrors, previous artworks, wood boards, picture frames with glass, metal sheets, etc.
See material list for required supplies.
