Snow & Shadows in Watercolor: How to Paint White

December 6 & 13, 2025

2 weeks, Saturdays, 3:00 - 6:00 PM

Instructor: Elzara Yusufova

This two week watercolor workshop will focus on one of the most fascinating challenges in watercolor painting:  how to show snow, shadows, and the beauty of white space without using white paint. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and step-by-step projects, participants will explore how to use negative space, how to paint colorful shadows on snow using transparent layers, which colors make white come alive  from cool blues and lavenders to warm ochres and pink, and essential watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet washes, soft gradients and dry brush effects. In the first week we will explore snow, white space, and shadow studies and in the second week we will create a finished atmospheric winter landscape.

Skill Level: This workshop is designed for students who have some experience painting with watercolors.
