Teen Intensives: Ages 14-18

Teen Intensive camps at the STLAG are perfect for high school students ready to take their artwork to the next level or strengthen their portfolio for college applications. Each camp is taught by experienced teaching artists who enjoy working with all types of students, from those just beginning their artistic journey to more experienced young artists who want to hone their skills.

Monday-Friday, 3pm-5:30pm.

Camps are limited to approximately 10 students.

Supplies are included in the cost of the class.

If you must cancel, please email (info@stlouisartistsguild.org) or call STLAG. A refund will be given only if cancellation occurs seven days prior to the first day of class. No exceptions. Refunds will be processed minus a $25 withdrawal fee (per camp if multiple camps are purchased).

Pen & Ink

June 10 - 14, Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 5:30PM

In this class, students will become familiar with drawing in ink using classic dip pens and ink washes. While learning the basics of the materials, students will be introduced to various techniques that will equip them with a range of ways to express themselves using the simple yet powerful medium of ink. While primarily focusing on black and white, the class will explore color. By the end, students may realize that while working in ink they have been simultaneously becoming watercolorists.

Teen Figure Drawing Session #1

June 17 - 21, Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 5:30PM

Students will work from a live clothed model in this one-week camp. Over the week, students will learn the fundamentals of figure drawing as they tackle strategies for capturing the figure through gestural sketches and develop their drawings into completed pieces.

Portrait Painting in Oil Session #1

June 24 - 28, Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 5:30PM

Students will work from a live clothed model in this one-week camp. This class will cover the use of oil paints to render the human portrait. Your instructor will introduce methodology, techniques, and materials that make the process of oil painting the anatomy of facial form accessible and encouraging so that the student can continue personal studies of the subject with confidence. Further, the class will discuss the importance of under-painting in establishing composition and structure for the addition of color.

Watercolor for Teens

July 8 - 12, Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 5:30 PM

Students will explore the world of watercolor, while building on traditional methods. Students will try various layering, masking, and wash techniques. The class will emphasize color theory and working from observation. This class is great for students who are interested in experimenting with color and texture. Each day will be a little different, demonstrations and individual instruction will accommodate all skill levels. Students will practice their skills, and complete projects based on their own interests.
