Painting Eyes in Oil
October 21 - November 11, 2025
4 weeks, Tuesdays, 1-3:30pm
Instructor: Maxine Thirteen
Each week students will create an alla prima study of a human eye in oil paints. We will begin with a monochromatic study to focus on the shape, structure and lighting, and then move on to a full color study the following week, and progressively more challenging studies of eyes in weeks three and four. The goal will be for students to gain a better understanding of the anatomy of the human eye and how to capture it in oil paints. Over the 4 weeks, topics covered will include: blending, value, lighting, brushwork, color mixing, skin tone, and more. Maxine will provide printed photos to use as reference and demonstrate her own process and provide tips and input to each participant throughout the classes.
Skill Level: Students will benefit from having basic knowledge of drawing and painting. Experience using oil paints specifically is recommended. Ages: 16 and up.
