Watercolor Tarot Cards

March 3 - April 14 (skip March 17), 2026

6 weeks, Tuesdays, 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Instructor: Michael Faris

This studio class is designed for students interested in watercolor painting and the art of tarot cards. The class is for beginners or experienced students. Each student will complete the twenty-two Major Arcana Tarot Cards. Demonstrations and critiques will be used to explain techniques and composition, including background techniques and use of warm and cool colors. Each session will include a painting assignment, focusing on completing the cards. Students will decide on painting style, realistic or nonrealistic depictions, color choices, value differences, and other choices. The instructor will supply all references.

This watercolor class will focus on composition, color, design, and use the creation of a tarot deck as the vehicle for that exploration. This class is not intended to cover all of the intricacies of tarot practices.

See syllabus for material list.
