Oil Painting Study of the Eye

March 14, 2026

Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM

Instructor: Maxine Thirteen

16+

Students will create an alla prima study of a human eye in oil paints. The workshop will begin with discussion of the structure of the eye and how it interacts with light, then students will choose printed references of eyes to paint. Maxine will demonstrate how to begin the painting, set up your color palette, and which brushes to use. Students will then spend the remainder of the workshop creating their individual study paintings with input throughout.

The goal of this workshop will be for students to gain a better understanding of the anatomy of the human eye and how to capture it in oil paints. Over the 6 hours, topics covered will include: blending, value, lighting, brushwork, color mixing, skin tone, and more. Maxine will provide printed photos to use as reference and demonstrate her own process and provide tips and input to each participant throughout the workshop.

Skill Level: Students will benefit from having basic knowledge of drawing and painting. Experience using oil paints specifically is recommended. Ages: 16 and up.

Bring a lunch! We will take a short break.
